After graduating from
Virginia Tech in 1962, I taught school and coached at Colonial Heights H.S.,
VA.(1963-64) and Culpeper H.S.,VA. (1964-66). From 1966 to 1998, I coached
college football at four different universities, Virginia Tech (1966-1970),
University of Maryland (1972-1981), University of Kentucky (1982- 1989),
Georgia Tech (1990-1991) and back to Virginia Tech (1992-1998). I retired from
an administrative position in the Virginia Tech athletic department in January,
2000.
I married Cynthia Ann Fralin, from Glade
Hill, VA. on June 22, 1963. She is a graduate of Radford College. We have 2
daughters, Cheryl Lee, born January 20, 1968 and Christl Lynn, born November
11, 1969. Both girls were born in Blacksburg, VA.
Cheryl married Howard Kent Hall of
Lexington, KY. on June 17,2001, where they presently reside.. They have a son,
Evan Howard , age 6. Cheryl works for Habitat for Humanity, while Kent is the
manager of a roofing supply company. Evan is very active in sports of baseball
(T-Ball), football, basketball , soccer, and golf.
Christl married Edward McCarthy of Dale
City, Va. on May 21, 1994. They presently live in Haymarket, VA. They have a
daughter, Jaclyn Valle, age 6 and twin boys, Steven Edward and Sean Strock,
ages 3 1/2. After working for the
American Meat Institute in Roslyn, VA. for 8 years, Christl now works part-time
for the same company from her home. Eddy has an insurance agency, The Farmers
Group, in Centreville, VA. Jaclyn is active with soccer and is interested in
getting started in basketball and softball. The twins are interested in
everything from sports to cars to trains.
